How to Find High-Intent Amazon Keywords That Actually Convert
Most Amazon keyword research stops at search volume. But volume alone tells you nothing about whether a shopper is ready to buy. The keywords that grow a business are the ones that carry buying intent — and separating those from the noise is where real ranking gains come from.
Volume is a vanity metric
A term with 40,000 monthly searches looks attractive until you realise most of that traffic is researching, comparing, or window-shopping. A term with 2,000 searches and clear purchase intent will almost always out-convert it. Before you chase a keyword, ask what the shopper typing it actually wants.
Map keywords to intent, not just relevance
We sort every candidate keyword into three buckets:
- High-intent: specific, feature-led, or comparison terms (“insulated 32oz water bottle leakproof”).
- Mid-intent: category terms where the shopper is still deciding (“water bottle for gym”).
- Low-intent: broad, informational, or off-category traffic.
High-intent terms belong in your title and first bullets. Mid-intent terms support them in bullets and backend. Low-intent terms rarely deserve prime listing real estate.
Read the competition, not just the keyword
A keyword is only an opportunity if you can realistically rank and convert for it. Look at the top 10 organic results: their review counts, price bands, and image quality. If every result has 5,000+ reviews and A+ Content, that term is a long-term play, not a quick win.
Turn the list into a listing
Once you know which terms convert, the listing writes itself: lead with the highest-intent phrase, cover buyer objections in the bullets, and place secondary terms in the backend search fields where they help discovery without cluttering the copy.
That’s the difference between a listing that gets clicks and one that gets sales. If you want us to run this process on your catalogue, get in touch.
